What is a Righteous Mama?

It seems the Lord gives me some of the best ideas in the wee hours of the morning. Maybe that is because I typically don’t have a million things running through my mind and the kiddos are tucked away in slumber. It was in those wee hours following the birth of my son Eden that the Lord began to give me the vision for Righteous mama. In that moment I didn’t know that it would bring me back to writing, but I’m glad that it did.

So what is a righteous mama? We prayerfully will cover this in a multitude of ways throughout this blog. When I initially thought about it, I believed a righteous mama encompassed a woman, a mom, who was daily taking the steps to live righteously, but what does that really mean? How does that show up in our everyday lives? How would you convey this identity to another person?

Well here is my attempt to put it simply. A righteous mama, is a mom who believes and has put her faith in Jesus and the finished work that he did on the cross. She believes that Jesus is the word of God, and that he became flesh being born of a virgin and lived a sinless life. He gave us an immeasurable gift by dying on the cross for our sins and raising up again in three days, defeating death, hell, and the grave. He ascended into heaven and he is seated by the right hand of the Father until he comes again for his bride, the church. Through our faith we have been made right in the eyes of the Father and through Jesus’ work we have access to eternal life. “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

A righteous mama is saved by grace through her faith in Jesus. A righteous mama, is MADE righteous. Not of works, but by grace through faith. [Ephesians 2:8-9]

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

It is so easy to get sucked into a work-based mindset. It’s so easy to become so hyper-focused on not doing anything “wrong” that you miss the point of God’s love, grace, and mercy all together. My challenge for every mother that comes across this blog is to believe in the finished work that Jesus did for us, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in all truth. God knows what you don’t know, and He can see what you can’t see. “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”. When we seek God wholeheartedly, there is nothing that we will have to worry about. Sure, it may not always be that easy, but let’s give it our purposeful best. Let’s approach life and motherhood as doing it unto the Lord, and be mindful of what we produce and that it glorifies Him. Let’s truly find rest in the Father. Lord knows, I need some rest!

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

John 14:6

The point that I’m getting at is that we have only been made righteous by our faith alone. We have shortcomings and we don’t always get it right. We still have to renew our minds, and die to ourselves every day. We still must flee from temptations. We still have to repent. We still must love. We still must forgive. We are not some elitist, “you can’t sit with us” sector of motherhood. On the contrary, we are commissioned to tell people about this great news far and wide and get as many mamas (not just moms but you get what I’m trying to convey here) as we can to come sit with us!

So Mama, let’s grow together. Let’s walk this life out. Let’s build up our endurance and encourage one another. You got this. But most of all, God has you.

“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 5:1

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

Matthew 6:33

“I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

Isaiah 61:10

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

John 16:13
